Get more done with a done list

As a small business owner, I have a lot to do each day. From emailing, to blogging, to running my business, to working on actual projects, my to do list is never ending. Todoist keeps me sane by allowing me to easily keep track of all my to dos. There’s only one problem: when I complete a task, it disappears. As an avid list maker, my favorite part is crossing things off. There’s just something satisfying about seeing your completed tasks So why don’t I use paper to plan out my days? Well, I’m also a bit OCD with my lists, so having to move things around would just mean more time is wasted as I rewrite my lists to keep them neat. Plus, it’s just easier to schedule things online.

Fortunately I came up with a solution: the done list. It’s pretty much the opposite of a to do list. I start each day with a blank sheet of paper. Whenever I complete a task, I write it down. Then at the end of the day, I have a list full of proof of what I accomplished that day. And if I feel like procrastinating? Well, looking at a blank page at the end of the day doesn’t sound too appealing.

After using this technique, I decided to do some Googling where I found out I’m not alone. Turns out writing a done list is a proven technique that a lot of people swear by! Apparently accomplishment is a great motivator, which definitely makes sense.

Does anyone else swear by a done list?
